You can become a sniper, a chef, a martial artist, or just wander the galaxy, looking into each nook and cranny of every planet that you can find. Players can create their own clothing, weapons, food, and even entire walled cities. The cities are huge, the number of character options is overwhelming, and there is enough open land to ensure that you will probably never see every corner of every planet. Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is a huge game, bigger than most other massively-multiplayer games. These structures could even be organized into entire cities run by players. The game offered the opportunity for players to meet famous Star Wars NPCs, travel in their own landspeeders, speeder bikes and swoops, control economies, earn fame and fortune (or infamy and notoriety), obtain rare items, artifacts and trinkets, and build, own and decorate their own structures, including houses, cantinas and guild halls.
Players of Star Wars Galaxies could use their characters' skills and special abilities to attack targets, complete quests/missions, craft useful items, and/or entertain other players. During character creation, players could choose from ten different species and nine different primary professions, all of which were mentioned in various Star Wars media. The game world consisted of several different planets borrowed from the fictional Star Wars universe with a timeline set between the Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back movies. Star Wars Galaxies was a sci-fi MMORPG from Sony Online Entertainment and LucasArts initially released as Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided.
